Fundamentals of Astrology | Astrowize

Astrology studies the ever-changing pattern of the planets and stars in relation to the human experience.   The distribution of constellations in the zodiacal belt is divided into twelve Signs and the planetary hierarchy, through the method of calculating the ascendant and other houses of a natal chart, assessment of the strengths, influences, aspects, affliction, mutual relations, etc. of the planets.

Understanding the Basics of Astrology: The Planets

1.    The planets represent various facets of the personality: Sun is the symbol of identity, our conscious sense of self, the quality of our self-expression, and self-emanation.

2.    Moon represents feelings, moods, and needs, our emotional life.

3.    Mercury signifies our speech, thinking, verbal, cognitive, and communication skills.

4.    Venus signifies the expression of love, affection, our social style, and way of relating with others. Venus also symbolizes beauty and describes what we find desirable and attractive.

5.    Mars symbolizes self-assertion, instincts, drives, and vitality; it’s the symbol of the will, the vital energy that fuels activity and achievement. Mars signifies how we express anger, desires, and sexual drives. Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars is called the personal planets.

Cycles

Astrology is based on understanding the cyclical nature of existence. All of life follows a cyclical pattern of birth, growth, decay, and new beginnings.

3 Major Levels of Planetary Cycles
The first level of any cycle is the level of the soul, which lasts for many years, even decades, showing lessons, overall experiences, and circumstances over a longer period. The longest cycle is that of Venus, at 20 years, while the shortest is of the Sun, 6 years.

The second level shows the level of the mind and emotions, which may last from many months to up to 3 years. This represents how we’re feeling about where we find ourselves in our life experience and circumstances, the soul lessons we are currently experiencing, as well as the people we meet to help us learn these bigger life lessons.

The third level shows how we are reacting to all the above and relates to the planet Jupiter and the ascendant. The ascendant represents how we’re applying our intelligence to the above influences. The third level shows our reactions based on our emotional nature and circumstance.

When all three are taken as a whole, more accurate assessments can be made for the individual. When we add the influence of the current transits to these cycles, overlaying them on a birth chart, this gives a fuller picture of what is going on at any given time for an individual.

Religious beliefs, spiritual views, and secular practices from all over the world have been combined with astrology with ideas of karma, reincarnation, and the afterlife: Eastern religions and spiritual sects like Hinduism and Buddhism, Western and European ways of lifelike paganism, and indigenous spiritual practices and ceremonies. Today, people combine astrology with energy healing, dream interpretation, mediumship, yoga, and meditation.
